Vietnam Maritime Corporation (VIMC) is prioritising the acceleration of its IT development and digital transformation in its strategy for 2021-2030 with a vision to 2035, aiming to sustain its growth into the future.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

VIMC is accelerating its digital transformation and green growth<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

VIMC will focus on investing in technology to create a common platform to connect maritime service businesses, improving competitiveness and opening up new digital business models.<\/p>\n

In terms of shipping, the company will apply digital technologies to manage the use of materials and spare parts, minimising fuel consumption and enhancing ship operations to improve efficiency.<\/p>\n

The digital transformation will also improve the customer experience, making it possible to better understand their behaviour and expectations and improve the products, services, and distribution methods. Through digitalised data and information, the company will improve the efficiency of asset use and human resources, increase productivity, and more effectively monitor business processes.<\/p>\n

Connecting the ports with customers, shippers, agencies, and VIMC member businesses on the IT platform aims to simplify procedures, create new advantages for customers, and improve the service experience.<\/p>\n

VIMC plans to apply IT to manage its warehouses, yards, and fleets, controlling costs, limiting fuel burn, and providing real-time information for customers to access at any time.<\/p>\n

\"VIMC<\/p>\n

In addition, the ship giant will promote research and the application of digital technologies, including AI, in the management of its business activities to cut fuel consumption and reduce carbon emissions, thus mitigating the impact of climate change, supporting Vietnam’s COP26 commitments, and cutting carbon and methane emissions in the maritime industry.<\/p>\n

On the path towards green ports, a number of VIMC’s sites have invested in upgrading equipment, switching from oil to electricity or other clean fuels such as liquefied natural gas for the cranes and vehicles in the ports and developing solutions to reduce dust and noise by using barges instead of container trucks.<\/p>\n

Along with this, the company will plant trees along wharfs and internal roads to improve the air quality, and build wastewater collection and treatment systems, especially at equipment repair and maintenance facilities.<\/p>\n

Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has submitted a project to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to research and build Can Gio International Transshipment Port. The project is jointly invested in by VIMC and Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A.<\/p>\n

\"VIMC<\/p>\n

The Can Gio International Transshipment Port project is expected to become the first green port in Vietnam<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Can Gio International Transshipment Port will accommodate container ships with a tonnage of up to 250,000 DWT (24,000 TEUs), transshipment vessels with a tonnage of 10,000-65,000 tonnes (750-5,200 TEUs), and barges of up to 8,000 tonnes. It will apply smart technology and use clean fuels to protect the environment, making it the first green port in Vietnam.<\/p>\n

Once completed, it will be able to receive the largest container ship in the world today, reaffirming Vietnam’s position in the international arena and forming an important link in the global supply chain.<\/p>\n

VIMC’s subsidiaries have developed and implemented an effective energy management plan in line with the requirements of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).<\/p>\n

All ships will use oil with a sulphur content not exceeding 0.5 per cent, and in special areas not more than 0.1 per cent.<\/p>\n

Developing green ports and shipping is a significant challenge for VIMC and its member businesses, requiring considerable time, effort, and expense.<\/p>\n

As a demonstration of the responsibility of Vietnam’s maritime industry in implementing IMO regulations and the government’s methane emissions targets, VIMC and its businesses are determined to maximise the potential of each member, joining forces and coordinating with other businesses to apply technology and successfully achieve the set goals.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
