The Vietnam Maritime Corporation (VIMC) has sought the Ministry of Transport\u2019s approval to study and invest around US$875 million in two container terminals in HCM City’s Can Gio District.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Based on the national master plan for ports in 2021-30, VIMC aims to build the Cai Mep-Thi Vai Channel near Phu Loi Island and Sai Gon-Vung Tau Channel in Long Hoa Commune, with the former having a capacity of 200,000 DWT and the latter, 150,000 DWT.<\/p>\n

According to the VIMC\u2019s estimation, the wharves will have a combined length of 1,500m.<\/p>\n

It said the new terminals are needed because existing ones such as Hiep Phuoc, built to relocate Nha Rong- Khanh Hoi Port, are not yet capable of receiving the entire volume of ships and displaced goods since the depth of the main channel in the port area are not stable.<\/p>\n

VIMC said it has reached an agreement with the Mediterranean Shipping Company, the second largest container shipping company in the world, for building infrastructure and logistics services in new port.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
