On January 29, 2024, in Ho Chi Minh City, the signing ceremony of a MOU of Development and Comprehensive Cooperation took place between Can Tho Port and DP World Vietnam, witnessed by the leader of Vietnam Maritime Corporation.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aims to specify the long-term development cooperation strategies between the two parties. It also aligns with the direction of the Vietnam Maritime Corporation (VIMC) in connecting services and collaborating with DP World to enhance the capabilities of VIMC’s port system in the Mekong Delta region.
According to the MOU, both parties will collaborate comprehensively in approaching import-export customers in the Can Tho, Hau Giang, and neighboring provinces based on existing relationships and potential new customers. They will also engage in a joint venture with international container shipping companies to connect and enhance cooperation, jointly establishing pricing and policies to attract customers and bring imported/exported containers to the port. Additionally, both sides will jointly survey and study the feasibility of investing in future projects, including DP World’s participation in the capital increase process of Can Tho Port.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Le Quang Trung, Vice President of Vietnam Maritime Corporation and the Chairman of Can Tho Port, highly appreciated the dynamism and initiative of DP World in connection and cooperation and proposed to accelerate the implementation of the cooperation agreement between the two parties into specific cooperation tasks. It recommended that Can Tho Port promote its role as a driving force to promote linkages and expand service chains connecting with seaports in the Mekong Delta region and surrounding countries. At the same time, the two signatories proactively cooperate, share market information, and work together to provide individual services and “Optimal solutions” for customers at Can Tho Port and DP World.
During the MOU signing ceremony, environmental issues were mentioned, by enhancing water transport to save costs and reduce emissions that cause environmental pollution.
