Cai Mep International Terminal (CMIT) breaks the volume handling record for a single vessel call

On 8th April 2022, Cai Mep International Terminal (CMIT) set a new record in cargo handling volume after accomodating M/v MSC VANDYA successfully. MSC VANDYA with capacity of 154,185 DWT / 13,106 TEUs is deployed by MSC in the PEARL/ TP6 service of the 2M Alliance connecting Vietnam with the US West Coast.

The vessel called CMIT for handling nearly 14,700 TEUs of import, export and transshipment through Vietnam – this is the biggest cargo volume which has ever been handled at CMIT for one single vessel. With the strength of stable high productivity, CMIT has successfully handled such biggest cargo volume in only approximately 55 hours with high berth productivity up to 135 moves/hour. Its relentless effort to release the vessel quickly and safely helps to ensure the vessel routine and brings outstanding service quality to customers.

The COVID-19 pandemic has presented unprecedented challenges to the national economy. Thanks to the timely appropriate policies by the Government towards “co-living with covid-19” strategy and great effort for the impressive vaccination coverage which facilitated factories to recover production, hence the foreign trade becomes more bustling. This vessel call m/v MSC VANDYA with the record of cargo handling volume at CMIT is considered as “sweet fruit” and the most obvious illustration for results of such great effort of the Government.

Vessels with the largest tonnage up to 214,121 DWT calling CMIT and the volume of each call increasing to a record level like M/v MSC VANDYA are robust growth trend in Cai Mep. “Deep-water terminals like CMIT and shipping lines highly appreciate the strategic vision and concentrated efforts of the Government, the Ministry of Transport in investment to upgrade the maritime infrastructure, typically Cai Mep channel is expected to be dredged to min 15.5m in Q4 this year. This will create greater conditions for such largest vessels currently calling Cai Mep to transport more Vietnam export cargo in near future”, said by Mr. Nguyen Xuan Ky, CMIT General Director.

US market is the biggest export market of Vietnam with an export turnover USD 25.57 billion, accounting for 28.87% of the general export turnover. The potential growth of foreign trade between the two countries is tremendous and CMIT is proud to contribute into this development with four direct mainline services connecting Vietnam and US every week. Vietnamese exports to the US market are being connected with the best service at CMIT.
