Construction of $40.77-million Ninh Giang Inland Water Logistics Center in northern province to begin in Q4 2024.

VIMC Deputy General Director Pham Anh Tuan and leaders from Hai Duong province exchange the MoU

At the recent Provincial Planning Announcement Conference for the 2021-2030 period with a vision towards 2050 and investment promotion in Hai Duong province, and witnessed by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and various government leaders, an MoU on investment in the Ninh Giang Inland Water Logistics Center project was exchanged between leaders of Hai Duong province and the Vietnam Maritime Corporation (VIMC), amounting to total investment of VND1.394 trillion ($40.77 million).

Aligning with VIMC’s strategy to expand its logistics network across provinces, particularly in the northern region and specifically in Hai Duong province, fostering connectivity between industrial parks and clusters within the province with VIMC’s seaport network in areas such as Dinh Vu and Lach Huyen, VIMC conducted research and proposed the investment in the Ninh Giang Inland Water Logistics Center project to cement its development strategy.

Spanning nearly 27 ha in Hong Phuc commune, Ninh Giang district, the project is set to have a capacity of 3 million tons of goods a year. With total investment of VND1.394 trillion ($40.77 million) and an operational period of 50 years, the project anticipates completing site clearance in the third quarter of this year and commencing construction in the fourth quarter.

Once operational, the Center will provide multimodal transportation services for industrial parks and clusters in Ninh Giang district and neighboring areas, encompassing services such as warehousing, cargo handling, water and road transportation, customs clearance, and the maintenance and repair of containers and transport vehicles.

Its establishment is expected to yield positive cascading effects for various industries in Hai Duong and the region, meeting transportation and storage needs for activities in industrial parks and clusters, particularly for goods with significant transportation requirements, such as steel structures manufacturing, mechanical assembly, building materials production, textile and garment processing, and food and beverage production.

It aims to enhance connectivity and develop a logistics supply chain from Hai Duong province to seaports in Hai Phong and Quang Ninh, thereby facilitating the movement of goods to and from various provinces and international import-export activities.

The project will generate direct employment opportunities for the local workforce and thousands of indirect jobs in Ninh Giang district and the surrounding region. It will also attract high-quality workers in port and logistics services, contributing to the improvement of local education and skills, while fostering urbanization in the Ninh Giang area.

In comments to the Conference, Prime Minister Chinh urged relevant ministries and sectors to promptly and effectively implement Party guidelines, State policies, and laws, creating a favorable investment and business environment with the principle of placing people and enterprises at the center and the driving force of development.
